Changes to Staffing in Mathematics
11 January 2017
Dear Parent/Carer
Changes to Staffing in
Mathematics
You may be aware that there have recently been changes to our staffing
in the Maths Department. Whilst this is never ideal, especially midway through
an academic session, please be assured we are doing all we can to continue to
offer a high quality learning experience in this subject.
Mr Hamish Davidson joined the Department on Monday 9 January and he will
be with us until at least the end of the summer term. Mr Alan Koturbasz will be joining later on Monday
30 January and will be with us initially for a 12-month period.
Both Mr Davidson and Mr Koturbasz are experienced teachers and I am
confident they will build on the work of the department and deliver a very
positive learning experience for our learners.
Until Mr Koturbasz joins us, Mrs Justine Haddow, a Maths specialist, who
works in our Support for Learning Team, will help out in the interim teaching
S1-3 Maths classes. There will be 2 periods per week where we cannot provide a
Maths specialist, one period for S1 and 1 period for S2 until 30 January.
However, arrangements are in place to ensure that no single class will
experience an extended time without specialist teaching input.
Should you wish to discuss any matter further, please do not hesitate to
contact your child’s Pupil Support Leader in the first instance or
alternatively you can address any matters to me.
Yours sincerely
Ross Hunter
Head Teacher

Course Choice 2017/18 – Course Information Evening
All pupils in S2, S3, S4 & S5
will soon be choosing their courses for next year. In order to launch this
process you are invited to a Course
Information Evening for parents on Wednesday
18th January.
The purpose of this evening is to
launch the course option form and the new course choice information booklet. We
will also provide an opportunity to gather more information regarding the
option choice process and national qualifications. There will also be an
opportunity for our Partner Agencies to discuss the numerous pathways available
to all pupils beyond school.
The format of the evening is
planned as follows:
5.15pm
|
Doors open
|
5.30pm
|
Welcome and introduction - Mr Hunter, Head Teacher
|
5.35pm

|

coursing marketplace
|

End of evening
|
A large part of the evening will
be given over to an opportunity to browse the coursing marketplace. This will
be staffed by subject specialists, allowing parents to ask detailed questions
on courses being offered and potential progression pathways in the subjects.
We will be joined by
representatives from Skills Development Scotland, Edinburgh College, LEAPS and
other business partners who will be available to answer any questions in their specialist areas.
Course choice is a very important
time for all pupils and I do hope that you can join us for this evening.
Working together we can provide the maximum support for all pupils in choosing
the most appropriate pathways towards their future.
