Coronavirus Update

Please see below a communication received from:

Dr Lorna Willocks, Consultant in Public Health Medicine

Novel coronavirus
Further to my letter of 27 January, you will be aware that the situation is changing very rapidly

The risk to people in this country remains low.

Information for the general public is updated daily at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public

Health information is at https://www.nhsinform.scot/campaigns/wuhan-novel-coronavirus

We have had a lot of queries from schools about pupils from China. Pupils (or staff) who have returned from China and who have no symptoms may attend school as usual.

Any pupil who develops respiratory symptoms including cough, fever or shortness of breath within 14 days of return from mainland China (excluding Hong Kong and Macao) should stay at home and seek medical attention by phone with their GP or NHS 24 on the 111 number.

Please note this advice only relates to within 14 days of return from mainland China.

There have been some questions about masks. We do not advise pupils to wear masks. Regular and effective handwashing is advised.
